The 3m x 2m map was a focal point at Dubai's CityScape Exhibition in the metropolis in September and was created for Ejadah Asset Management by additive manufacturing service bureau Generation 3D, which is based in Dubai.
The replica of the city - which includes landmarks such as the Palm Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab and the Burj Khalifa - was commissioned to allow the client to outline its growing presence in the Emirate and will be used long-term as a decision-making tool, ConstructionWeekOnline reports.
Co-founder of Generation 3D Dominic Wright was quoted by the news source as saying: "We are immensely proud of the eventual outcome and thankfully so is the client."
"We worked with our client for a month working on concepts of how a model can best represent their assets throughout Dubai whilst remaining aesthetically pleasing. We both decided 3D printing was the only way to get this done,” added Co-founder and Technical Director Max Reynard.
The model was built in under a month using a 3D Systems 860pro - the largest 3D printer in the GCC region, according to reports.
