Recycling becomes a habit if consumers are given the tools to make waste sorting a part of their routine as easy as possible, which is just what Dubai's decision-makers hope will come about through a new initiative.
Recycling
The National reports that 13 recycling centres are being set up throughout the Emirate at customer service centres, municipal parks and other popular community areas, with one new centre opening each week.
The sorting stations will allow consumers to dispose of many forms of non-organic waste sustainably including plastic, glass, clothing, electronics and televisions, bulbs, batteries and mobile phones.
Director of Dubai Municipality's waste management department Abdul Majeed Saifaie was quoted by the news outlet as saying: "We want to make recycling a habit and to give people a clean, proper area to dispose of their waste. Whatever recyclable material you can think of, we have thought about it and it will be found at the centres. This will cover everything dry, clean and recyclable.
In addition to the 13 new recycling centres being established in Dubai, the municipality is encouraging department stores and grocery chains to establish recycling centres at their premises to complement efforts being made at a local government level to boost the Emirate's green points.
